The leadership structure of the New Patriotic Party places enormous responsibility on the office of the National Chairman. At the heart of the party’s strategic direction is the National Council — a powerful body composed of parliamentary leadership, regional chairmen, former national officers, and even former presidents produced by the party.

This means the chairman of that council must have the depth, diplomacy, and authority to guide discussions among highly experienced political figures. In such a room, you may find statesmen like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor together with former national chairmen, secretaries, and the party’s parliamentary leadership.

Looking at the composition and importance of the National Council, one must ask a difficult but necessary question: Does Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wuntumi) possess the stature required to chair such a body?

There is no doubt that Chairman Wuntumi has supported the party financially and has shown commitment to the tradition. However, the role of the National Chairman demands more than financial capacity. It requires the ability to stand before seasoned leaders of the party, articulate policy directions, manage strategic debates, and unify strong voices within the tradition.

Even at the regional level, leadership comes with significant expectations. Moving from regional politics to chairing the National Council requires a higher level of political maturity, communication, and national leadership.

This is not an attack on his contribution. Every political tradition thrives because different people bring different strengths. Chairman Wuntumi’s resources and commitment could still be very valuable to the party, particularly as a strong financier and supporter of the tradition.

The New Patriotic Party has always grown stronger through honest internal reflection. Sometimes, the truth may sound uncomfortable, but sincerity in protecting the dignity and strategic future of the party must always guide our choices.

Leadership positions should always match the weight and responsibility of the office.
