Dr. Bawumia was elected in January 2026. It was an emphatic endorsement. There was no ambiguity. The Party stood by him in the most clearest manner.
His job right now is to win for NPP and Ghana.
He has until December 2028 to demonstrate to Ghanaians that he is visionary and have the competence to preside over our country.
He must also demonstrate that he will become President for all Ghanaians irrespective of our ethic origin, political inclination, religious background, et cetera.
He must show that he is forgiving and symbolizes unity, tolerance, fairness, selflessness and ready to work with everyone first as flagbearer and then as President.
Since his election as flagbearer, he has broadly engaged everyone positively. He says he has an open mind for all including his critics. This is an excellent disposition.
He has warmly received people who visited him at his residence to congratulate him.
His current public engagements with the “rebels” of the Party is fantabulous. He is eager to get the work done.
Some pro-Bawumia loyalists are concerned about his open-mindedness. They say he should be cautious dealing with those who said terrible things about him and his family in the last Presidential primary campaign.
An unrepentant and fiercely dedicated pro Bawumia advocate, Chief Akilu Sayibu put it this way;
“Let's also be careful about Trojan Horses. Let's not oversimplify unity. Some didn't believe Dr. Bawumia could be president. They armed the NDC with soundbits already. Let's be careful”.
People are unsure about the genuineness of those who recklessly Impugn DMB’s integrity.
They are absolutely on point.
I agree without condition that Dr Bawumia must be cautious. It makes sense. It protects him and the project. However, Dr Bawumia must also reach out, stretch his warmth to them, unite the Party and build a powerful and dedicated team for 2028.
Reaching out to internal political “enemies” is strategic albeit difficult. It builds internal stability and leads us to finding a common ground. It also reduces harmful polarization.
Effective engagement requires moving beyond “ l am DMB, he is not” narratives. Such descriptions are divisive, toxic and unnecessary. Our actions must bind us together.
Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brooks was an American poet, author, and teacher. The quote below is attributed to her.
“We are each other's harvest; we are each other's business; we are each other's magnitude and bond."
Let’s draw some lessons from Brooks’ teachings and focus on building a greater, united and foward looking Party.
We are ALL BAWUMIA. We are the New Patriotic Party. The elephant is our winning symbol. We must work together to win 2028 to serve our country like we did brilliantly under JAK and NADAA.
Let’s win with DMB!
