Dr. Stephen Amoah has always said privately he should've been Finance Minister instead of Dr. Amin Anta. He cites long service to the party and academic quals.

Today, some of us are happy that he has, at a campaign, said publicly that but for Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Anta wouldn't have been Finance Minister. Now we can do an elaborate exegesis of the profiles of the two people, starting with academics, then experiences, and contributions to the NPP.

Dr. Amin Anta completed University of Cape Coast in 1998 with a BSc Economics, first class. Dr. Stephen Amoah completed KNUST in 2004, where he struggled to complete a BSc Computer Science with a second lower class.

Dr. Amin Anta did an MPhil in Economics with Distinction from UCC in 2002, when Dr. Amoah was in level 200. Dr. Amoah did his one year MSc in Strategic Finance at the University of Derby in 2007.

Dr. Amin Anta completed his PhD in Petroleum Economics from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law, and Policy (CEPMLP) of the University of Dundee in the UK in 2014. Dr. Amoah completed his PhD at KNUST in Actuarial Science in 2021.

Dr. Amin Anta has undertaken professional development training at Columbia University, University of Texas at Austin, and Harvard University in the US, whilst Dr. Amoah also undertook a certificate course at MIT.

So now, between the two people, who is more competent in terms of academics to lead a Finance Ministry?

Now, to long service and sacrifices to the NPP:

In the year 2000 when NPP was not attractive to Northerners, Dr. Amin Anta was a Parliamentary candidate for Chogu Sabonjida in the Northern Region for the NPP. That was the time Dr. Amoah completed Opoku Ware SHS.

In 2004, he was the NPP parliamentary candidate for Tamale South, where he lost to Haruna Iddrisu. That was when Amoah completed KNUST.

Between 2001 and 2004, he was a Presidential Staffer. Within that period, Dr. Amoah was a Tescon executive at KNUST. Dr. Anta and Emmanuel Sin-nyet Asigri were the young people in government who were always there to inspire Dr. Amoah and his colleagues.

Dr. Anta was appointed a Deputy Minister for the Northern Region 2005,  Dr. Amoah was doing national service.

Dr. Amin Anta was appointed as Tamale Mayor. At that time, Dr. Richard Anane had sent Dr. Amoah to work at a newly established Health Insurance scheme, and he worked for just 2 years; he got a scholarship from Hon. Kojo Mpiani to read his Master's at the University of Derby which he completed in 2007.

After the NPP lost the elections in 2008, the NPP, just like today, lost the CSOs and the media.

Dr. Anta decided to read his PhD and enter into civil society. He picked Peter Amewu and other like-minded NPP brains to start the Africa Centre for Energy Policy. Around the same time, Dr. Amoah contested as National Youth Organiser of the NPP and lost to Anthony Abayifaa Karbo  in Kumasi.

Dr. Amin Anta and his colleagues used ACEP to strangulate the government to the extent that by 2016, ACEP was rated one of the best Energy think-tanks in Africa, even up to today. Within the same time, the Ashanti Region Organiser of the NPP, David Osei died, and Dr. Amoah, who lost a primary in Kwabre, and was the Finance officer for Kennedy Agyapong's Kencity media cum communicator was appointed the Regional Organiser of the party.

In 2017, when Dr. Anta was appointed Deputy Minister for Energy, it was a shock to everyone because everyone thought he was above a Deputy Minister because of his sacrifices and qualifications . At the same time, Dr. Amoah was appointed Masloc CEO.

Dr. Amin Anta entered parliament in 2020, snatching Karaga, a constituency that belongs to the NDC. At the same time, Dr. Amoah also won Nhyieaso Constituency.

Dr. Amin Anta was appointed Minister of State at the Finance Ministry and later confirmed as Substantive Minister, whilst Dr. Amoah was appointed Deputy Minister for Finance after the death of John Kumah.

The difference is clear: Dr. Anta's an economist by qualification and long service, while Dr. Amoah pursued finance at Master's level.

Good morning
