The amazing story of Mahmud and Samira after 20 years in the intense national spotlight…

……………………………………………………………………………

It’s been 20 years since Dr Bawumia was thrust onto Ghanas frontline politics. Apart from the sitting President there are very few people if any, in Ghana today who have stayed at the very top of Ghanaian politics for that long, consistently, vying for the Presidency or being in it.

He run beside Nana Addo for 3 elections and was vice president across 2 terms and then run as President once. Making a total of 5 presidential runs !! Only JM has seen more frontline top tier political action.

YET THIS MAN WHO HAS LIVED IN OUR FACES UNDER DAILY SCRUTINY FOR 20 YEARS, has conducted himself so well that:

1. No one can find a video of him inappropriately fighting or insulting anyone or even losing his cool.

2. No one has been able to prove any corruption against him.

3. No one can say he or his wife have misconducted themselves in a personal or professionally inappropriate way unbefitting their status.

On the contrary, this man with his adorable wife beside him all these years have managed to conduct themselves in such an exemplary way, i can’t help but wonder, how he does it? How do they both manage to smile for 20 years?

Pause for a moment and consider what it takes to be a goldfish in a glass bottle under intense light and still manage to maintain such an impeccable public profile.

And see Samira his wife, such an exemplary and sweet person. Even non-NPP people love her and how she carries herself and supports her husband, I have seen her come under several attacks yet she has kept herself and her genuine and very radiant smile for 20 years !!!

Team ‘MahSam’ (Mahmud and Samira) is amazing!!! Sometimes I feel it’s too much to ask anyone to be this upright for so long!!

Despite all this, of course not everyone will like them, I know people who are not happy with MahSam because they say when they were in government DMB would not assist them in their corrupt schemes or help ‘clear them’ when they were caught by the justice system. I think that is a good thing. Leaders must not be clearing agents but must let systems work even when their friends are involved. Thats the kind we want and need.

There are some persons seeking power today who have openly sided with criminals and corrupt persons!!! We must banish that type and move forward!

As this year ends, it dawns on me that although 20 years ago I didn’t know this man, after studying him intensely for all this time and being moved to confess about 10 years ago that I can’t find anyone on our political scene who is more upright and fit to be president than DMB!! I still hold that view today! I still cannot find anyone.

As this year ends, I still assess him and my admiration for him has grown.

As I write this, he is in the middle of a turbulent primary within NPP with all manner of things being thrown around, so much has been said to bring him down but he keeps going up!

Even prophets have climbed pulpits to prophesy against him, yet he gets stronger.

Anyone who looks hard enough comes away with the irresistible conclusion that of all the men in the fray, he is head and shoulders far above them.

To be fair the persons he contests against are also accomplished in their own right, but none measures up to him.

Although he has been higher in political office than all of them, Each of them has serious questions to answer for their time in politics either to the investigative bodies or over their personal business or conduct, or to the people for things associated with them, not him! Of course im not saying anyone is guilty of anything, i am saying, in my view, and many peoples’ DMB is the most transparently upright of all.

The main accusation against him is that he is a Muslim who fraternizes too much with Christians and some people don’t like that….. how is that a fault??

Ghana is better off with a tolerant God-Fearing Muslim as president instead of a blood sacrificing idol/devil worshipping pagan!!

We are better off with a balanced person who will reach out to all other religions and ensure religious harmony.

Many nations are praying for that!! Many will give a lot to have that!! So it’s a plus that we have such a balanced and religiously tolerant person seeking office.

And to those, especially from my own charismatic christian community who say they don’t want a Muslim president… YOU ARE WRONG!!! And God is not on your side in this. I am 100% sure of that.

God has been around for ever and seen across history that whenever Christians set up theocracies, and supposedly rule in God’s name, they degenerate into atrocities and damage the church itself!! Go and read church and general history!!

Our faith has thrived best under secular governments which respect the freedom of worship for everyone.

Ghana is a secular state and nothing will make it a Christian theocracy!! It is not even healthy!!!

What we need to do is pray for GODLY CAPABLE LEADERS, not just Christians, to step up to leadership at all levels.

Ironically we Christians have been tolerant of Pagans and idol worshippers leading us, some of us know what terrible blood sacrifices some of these politicians do to gain power yet we are quiet about that!!

How is it that we are ok with people burying pregnant cows and goats and engaging in all manner of devilish rituals to gain power, yet we are murmuring privately about a good and godly Muslim man who is extremely tolerant of other religions and would even worship with Christians??? What is wrong with us???

The earlier we stop that religious bigotry and thank God That we have a man who worships God and not his money, respects human beings from all walks of life and would not be caught insulting anyone for not being wealthy, or looking down on anyone regardless of their religion or station in life, the better.

I would vote for a good godly man any day! than some of the idol worshipping, blood sacrificing pagan ritualists we tolerated in the past!! I prefer that Godly muslim to anyone who worships his money and doesn’t respect people.

Our prayer should be, Dear Lord give us the person amongst the lot who will be the best leader for Ghana, and is most Godfearing and would respect other peoples rights!!

Dear Mahmud.

As this year ends my confidence in you has grown. You don’t seem to make a mistake in your high stakes campaigning for the flagbearership. Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it.

Keep your respectful and decorous self even when dealing with your other contestants. We are all seeing.

There’s a reason you are growing from strength to strength, it’s a winning formula, keep it up.

I still have no doubt that you’re the best on the ticket and we will all be better off if you win everything.

I can’t wait for Samira to become First Lady…. I can already imagine the brightness she will bring to the role, what a woman, you two are amazing.

Merry Christmas my Godly Muslim friend,

God bless and keep you for your sake, but also for Ghana’s !!

I will be praying for you and for Ghana, that the Lord will bless us all with a leader like you.

It will be the logical step forward after JM who is the closest I can find to you. No wonder he’s doing well. I have no doubt you will continue, and even do better because you have the ideas to take Ghana to the next level.

Merry Christmas my friend.
