Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei Central Constituency, has officially dispelled speculation about his intention to contest the flagbearership race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when nominations are opened.
At a meeting held at his residence on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, which brought together Constituency Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, the Council of Elders, and Patrons of the party, Hon. Boamah formally announced that he would not be joining the race for the party’s presidential candidacy.
Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that while conversations about his possible candidature had been ongoing in the political circles, he has taken the decision not to put himself forward at this time.
On the matter of contesting the parliamentary seat again, he noted that it was still “early days yet” to make such a decision.
Meanwhile, the Team Bawumia for Flagbearer in Okaikwei Central led by Alhaji Harruna Rafik 1st Vice Chairman of the constituency has reaffirmed its commitment to working tirelessly towards securing a decisive victory for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the flagbearership race.
According to the group, Dr. Bawumia stands out as the only “tried and tested” candidate among the aspirants, with a proven track record of leadership and dedication to the party and nation.
The announcement by Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah is expected to calm speculations within the constituency and focus energies towards uniting behind the NPP’s upcoming internal contest.
