A group of Ghanaians living in the United Kingdom staged a protest against President John Dramani Mahama during his engagement with members of the Ghanaian diaspora.
The demonstrators, made up of both men and women, gathered outside the venue where the President was scheduled to meet Ghanaians abroad. Many of the protesters held placards bearing various messages expressing their dissatisfaction with government policies and decisions.
Some of the placards displayed inscriptions such as, “Pay Teachers and Nurses,” “24-Hour Economy Is a Scam,” and “Family Has Taken Over Damang Mining Site,” among other messages.
Witnesses said the protesters chanted slogans through megaphones as they waited near the entrance of the building. Some were heard shouting, “JM, you're a disgrace to Ghana,” while calling on the government to address issues they believe are affecting the country.
The demonstration attracted attention from passersby and attendees of the diaspora event as security personnel monitored the situation. Despite the protest, President Mahama proceeded with his scheduled engagement with members of the Ghanaian community in the UK.
The protesters said their action was intended to draw attention to concerns they believe require urgent attention from the government. As of the time of reporting, there had been no official response from the presidency regarding the demonstration.
