This historic institution has educated over 10 generations of Ghanaians. As the oldest formal school in Ghana, Philip Quaque Boys School takes pride in its esteemed position. The school's motto, "Nyansa ahyese nye nyamesuro" (The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom), reflects its commitment to imparting values and knowledge.
The school's fascinating history dates back to its inception at the Cape Coast Castle, where it was initially known as the Government Boys' School. Later relocated to its current site, the school was renamed in honor of its founder, Rev Philip Quaque, the first black Anglican Priest. Interestingly, the present campus was once a British military barracks after World War II.
With a student population of over 450 and a teaching staff of nearly 30, Philip Quaque Boys School continues to shape young minds. The school's alumni include notable figures such as Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi Hughes, Dr. Sam Jonah, Nana Prah Agyensaim and Oguaamanhen, Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II.
Cape Coast's reputation as Ghana's educational capital is fitting, given the presence of this iconic institution.
