EFFO EMMANUEL WRITES,

TOPIC: FREE SHS RESULTS VRS FEE PAYING SHS RESULTS OF  2016, 2020-2022

The data speaks for itself, the positive aspects of our FREE SHS.

To determine the quality of the Free SHS, l will not use food shortage in some SHSs  as the basis for saying FREE SHS has destroyed our educational systems,  because even in 2014, 83 SHS Schools in the 3  Northern Regions at that time, had  to close down because there is no feeding grants.

No body compares performance of SHSs graduates to the kind of food they eat at the school but they compare performance of the School in terms of  exams results.

So l will base my argument on the performance.

*FOLLOW THE DATA*

1. In 2016, 247262 SHS students wrote their WAEC exams.

After the Exams, this is the results.

a. 32.83% passed Mathematics

b. 53.19% passed English

c. 48.48% passed Science

d. 51% passed Social Studies.

Over all, 118686 students qualified or passed, representing 48%.

What this means is that, under Mahama, if 100 students write exams, only 48 students passed and 52 students failed.

Remember they  paid School Fees.

If this is not a sign of destroyed SHS  system, then l don't know what 48/100 means. If every

52 students out of 100 students failing Exams under NDC mahama.

 *FREE SHS GRADUATES RESULTS*

2. In 2020,  313897 students wrote WAEC exams. This is the first FREE SHS exams.

After the exams, this is the results.

*PAY ATTENTION TO THE DATA*

a. 65% passed Mathematics

b. 57% passed English

c. 52% passed Science

d. 64% passed Social Studies.

Over all, 235423 students passed representing 75%.

Meaning under Nana Addo, 75 out of 100 students passed their exams.

This is the first free SHS graduates.

With NDC mahama, only 48 out 100 students passed their exams even after paying school fees but under Nana Addo 75 out of 100 students passed with no school fees.

So now, how can FREE SHS destroyed our educational systems at the SHS looking at the results from 2016 and 2020?

Remember that in 2020,  out of 465 students who obtained 8As in WAEC , 411 of those students are from Nana Addo's FREE SHS.

Does that mean that, WAEC,  rewards  bad students?

Again, the first 3 Top International Excellent Awards Institued by WAEC went to 3 Ghanaians Free SHS graduates.

These are:

1st, Cecil Tetteh Kumah from Mfantsipim SHS he had 650.1328 scores.

He is currently in  University in USA.

Does that mean, the University admitted bad student?

2nd  Godfred Aseda Obeng from Hope College Gomoa Fete

He had 625.6953 scores

He is currently at University of Ghana.

Does that mean, UG has admitted a graduate from bad education system?

3rd, Afua Manukure Ansah from Achimota SHS, had 624.640

She is currently at Cornell university.

Does that mean, the University admitted a student from bad education system?

3. In 2021, 446352 students wrote the WAEC exams.

This is the results.

a. 54% passed Mathematics

b. 54% passed English

c. 64% Science

d. 66% passed Social Studies.

Over  all, 348155 students passed their exams representing 78% passed.

Meaning, out of 100 students who wrote exams under Free SHS in the second year, 78 passed compare to Mahama's 2016, 48 out 100 students passing, who is doing well?

Again, in 2021, one of the graduates  by name Thomas Amoani who had 8As from Adeiso Presbyterian SHS, was given scholarship by Nana Addo to study at Brunel University in UK, this Thomas Amoani was awarded as the best Economics student by the UK's university .

Does that mean, the University admitted bad student from bad educational system?

4. In 2022, 442883 students wrote the WAEC exams.

And the results is

a. 61% passed Mathematics

b. 60% passed English

c. 62% passed Science

d. 71% passed Social Studies.

Over all, 323305 students passed, representing 73%.

Meaning third group of Nana Addo's FREE SHS graduates, 73 out of 100 students passed their exams.

Compare with Mahama's 2016,

Clearly, the FREE SHS policy is working better than fees paying policy.

NB: I didn't add 2017, 2018, 2019 data because they paid School Fees but completed under Nana Addo not Mahama.

That data too will come out.

It is clear that, FREE SHS policy has increased enrollment and also increased the passing rate.

Contact hours has also been increased under the FREE SHS policy form 900 hours to 1400 hours a year .

Making students getting more learning hours than they used to in 2016.

Because of the success of the FREE SHS, universities have increased their enrollment by 20% leading to shortage of hostels and accommodation facilities  in our universities.

Am not sure that, any university in Ghana will admit unqualified students into their Schools.

We should be thankful for the opportunity given to us by this NPP Government.

*THANK YOU*
